On Shedding, Becoming, and What Comes Next

Something big is shifting in the way I work.

Not the kind of shift that demands a dramatic exit or a public unraveling, but the quieter, more intelligent kind that happens when your own evolution refuses to be contained by who you were yesterday.

I was stretched in so many ways this last year - the Year of the Snake - but it was a different kind of stretch. I had enough grounded spaciousness to witness it all happening in real time. Painful at times, like being awake for my own surgery, but in doing so, I could clearly see what I’m releasing and what’s calling me forward.

Especially right at the end. The last two months have felt like a grand finale growth spurt. A quickening. The old skin falling away without me even having to do anything. And now there’s no going back.

We’ve just celebrated the Lunar New Year (February 17th), ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse. If you know anything about this energy, you know it’s not subtle. The Fire Horse is bold, electric, fast-moving, and absolutely done waiting.

You may want to think back to the last time the Chinese Zodiac moved from the Year of the Snake into the Year of the Horse, which was in 2013 into 2014. I’ve had a lot of life-changing moments in the last 13 years, but that year was hands-down one of the most profound.

Some of you witnessed me through that time: I’d met someone new in January 2014, my business was taking off like a rocket ship, and next thing I knew I had fallen madly in love, moved out of my sweet little garden apartment I’d called home for 11 years, finished my coaching certification, put on our second massive YxYY event, and sorted/sold/packed my life up and moved away from San Francisco (my home for 18 years) halfway around the world to Hong Kong. HUGE!

The second most life-changing year for me was 2017, which marked the beginning of a 9-year cycle in numerology that just concluded at the end of 2025. That was the year I got sober, changed my last name, left that partner, and moved from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

So here we are at the cosmic doorway again. Completing the 9-year cycle, shedding the old, and stepping into a 1-year, with the Fire Horse energy on top of it.

And yet this one feels drastically different in my body.

I feel so grounded, at peace, and ready in a way I simply wasn’t back then. All of the growth, the leaps, the transformations, the hard-won self-knowledge, and most notably that I’ve been full-time in one place for the entirety of last year. It’s all been preparing me for this.

For me, I’m not feeling “burn it all down” vibes, though I’m very familiar with that energy! 😅 This is more of a quiet but undeniable sense that who you’ve been, even the version you’re super proud of, isn’t quite the full picture of who you’re becoming. Like the identity you’ve worn so well is starting to pinch at the seams. Not because it was wrong, because it’s still who you are, and it carried you here. But there is more in you than what that container allows.

Like the snake shedding its skin or a sprout busting through the soil, it’s more of a natural progression. Something truer and more alive and aligned is unfolding, and choosing it feels clear. Easy.

And yet, even with all the inner work and self-trust, there’s still been an identity death to reckon with. That tender, sometimes disorienting in-between space where who you’ve been dissolves before who you’re becoming is fully formed.

The good news is I know this terrain intimately from all of my big leaps and bold moves. And, for over a decade, I’ve guided people through these edgy thresholds, too... I even wrote a book about it!

And now here I am again, mid-leap.

I’m not burning anything down. I’ll always be a speaker, coach, mentor, and guide. I have more books in me, more wisdom to share. The last 13+ years have become the strongest foundation I could have built for everything I’m now becoming and creating. Every client, every leap, every messy breakthrough built the architecture for what is emerging now.

The new work that’s calling me sits at the intersection of everything I’ve ever loved: technology, wisdom, and creativity. And honestly? I haven’t felt this alive about a direction in a long time!

What excites me most isn’t just AI. It’s what becomes possible when someone’s years of lived wisdom – their voice, their methodology, their way of seeing the world – gets translated into systems that can serve at scale. When your intellectual property stops living in scattered documents and becomes alive, useful, and truly transformative for the people you serve in ways it has never had the chance to be before!

I’ve always been an early adopter, and I’m happiest at the edge of a new frontier. Right now we are standing in one. This space doesn’t just need technologists. It needs people who understand fear, creativity, nuance, and the courage it takes to share your work with the world. I’m bringing 20+ years of business, consulting, and coaching into this because the future of these tools must be shaped by people who love humanity and respect the work we’ve put our hearts and souls into.

I’m learning alongside the industry in real time. Playing. Building. Testing. It feels like being at the beginning again, but with the wisdom of everything that came before.

Part of me can’t believe I’m getting back into tech consulting after so many years. But I’m just so excited to lend my geeky brain to other creative visionaries and see what we can co-create together!

I also know this isn’t the final form yet. All I need to do is keep following my yes, keep listening to what lights me up, and let the path show me.
